Support Crews and Drop Bags

Drop Bags

200-mile competitors can have up to four bags/bins:

  • The Mica Bay bag (CP1, CP3) will also move back to Stokely Creek Lodge for CP9 and the Finish
  • The Batchewana bag (CP4) will not move anywhere else but the finish line, but it may not arrive back there until later in the race, due to the remote location
    • Note that CP4 does not have support crew access. It is approximately 90km between CP3 and CP5, so this drop bag is critical for all runners, in our humble opinion.
  •  The Mile 38 bag (CP5, CP6) will not move from that location until after the runner passes through the second time
  • If competitors want more than just the items in their Mica Bay bag when they get to Stokely, they may also have a CP9/Finish bag

Only people without support crews need a drop bag. Please keep your bags or bins under 20kg (45 lbs) and a reasonable size. If we have a whole pile of huge bags, we may not be able to fit them all under the tents, and then they will be out in the elements.

100-mile, 100k, and 50k competitors may have one bag/bin:

  • The only supported and drop bag location for these distances is Stokely Creek Lodge

Support Crews + Pacers

Support people (aka Support Crews) are often a lifeline during a long race. Support people help keep their racer moving. If you intend to support a racer, do not be afraid to ask questions – we want your experience to be as rewarding for you as it is for the competitors.

There is variable cell coverage outside of the town proper. Any emergency communications should be done through Race Staff, who are all equipped with a radio or inReach. The tracking information should be online at all times so please refrain from asking for competitor updates. You can also use the provided inReach to communicate.

Support crews and pacers can only go to the designated CPs. Receiving assistance (coffee, food, clothes, bandage, a place to sleep, etc.) anywhere else on the course will result in the racer being disqualified. We work hard to ensure fairness for all competitors and to keep it a level playing field, so we need everyone to respect this rule.

Pacers must start and stop at main aid stations only. We cannot provide transport for your pacers, unless it is a medical emergency.
