Black Spur Ultra is wrought from the winding, technical single track that trail runners dream about. No pavement, big climbs through rugged terrain, immaculate trails, and stunning scenery. Hosted at Kimberley Alpine Resort, you can walk to the start line right from your hotel room.

The race has 108k and 54k distance options. Solo either distance, or run on a team. The 108k is open to teams of up to six and the 54k teams of two or three. For soloists, the race course is a qualifier for UTMB. We now offer a Kids Race for those who bring their kiddos to the event.

Kimberley is a secluded gem nestled between the Purcell and Rocky mountains. With an extensive network of single and double track trails accessible right from the edge of town, Kimberley is a natural choice for a mountain ultra. Kimberley is also the highest elevation city in Canada.

The community is genuinely friendly and welcoming, with a spirit that embraces outdoor adventure. Kimberley Alpine Resort is a world-class venue that is set up to host large groups, and it is perfectly situated on the trail network

Support Crew:
This is about the easiest race your crew will ever attend as they only have to be in one place. A support crew (someone to attend your gear and food) is not required but recommended for solo runners.
Transition Area(TA):
  • The transition between stages is located at the Kimberley Alpine Resort
  • Solo runners, and teams if need be, are allowed a drop bag at the transition area
  • Relay racers should be at the TA approximately one hour before their previous runner
  • The TA is staffed and have drinking water available as well as food for all runners (note that this is snack food and should not be your primary sustenance)
  • Runner support crews are able to meet racers at the TA
Aid Stations (CPs):
  • There is one CP on each stage at approximately the half way point
  • Runners are not allowed to cache gear at CPs (picking up or dropping off) but they are encouraged to leave garbage here
  • CPs are staffed and have snack food and drinking water available
